Talking to a park ranger changed how I look at star photos

I was out near Joshua Tree last weekend trying to get a milky way shot, and a ranger walked up during my setup. He said something like "you know, most people forget the foreground tells the bigger story." It hit me because I've been so obsessed with the sky detail that I never thought about what's in front of the lens. Now I'm going back next month to try shooting with more dirt and rocks in the frame. Has anyone else had a random stranger completely shift your photography approach?

Wait, a PARK RANGER gave you photography advice? That's wild.

Right, because everyone knows park rangers are secretly hiding out there waiting to school amateur photographers on composition. "You know, the foreground tells the bigger story" - sounds like a fortune cookie from the gift shop. Next thing you know he'll be critiquing your aperture settings while he's giving a talk about desert tortoises. I'm half convinced he was just bored and wanted someone to talk to. But hey, at least you got some free advice out of the deal instead of a lecture about not stepping on the Joshua trees.
