Stacking software drama: DeepSkyStacker vs Siril - which actually works better for noisy data?
I've been using DSS for years because everyone says it's the gold standard. Then a friend with a modded DSLR showed me his before/after using Siril on the same set of 50 light frames from a bortle 7 zone. His final image had way less gradient and noise than mine. Now I'm wondering if I've been missing out. What's your experience with these two? Has anyone switched and regretted it or found the opposite true?

Siril cleaned up my Bortle 8 data way better than DSS ever did.

Wait, you used to be a DSS person too, @the_anthony? I was the same way, I figured if it wasn't broke don't fix it, but then I tried Siril on a super polluted Bortle 7 shot and the difference in background noise was honestly hard to believe. It's like the software just understood what to do with all that light pollution mess.
