So I spent three nights trying to photograph the Andromeda galaxy from my backyard in Phoenix, and my neighbor's new security light ruined everything.

Did you talk to them first?

Read an article about a guy in Tucson who built a light shield for his neighbor's security light out of black foam board. He cut it to shape so it only lit up the neighbor's own yard. Tbh, that kind of light pollution is brutal for stargazing. Honestly, maybe just talk to them? Some people don't get how a little light messes up a whole night's work. Could offer to help them adjust the angle so it's not blasting into your yard.

Honestly, I had a similar thing happen a few years back and I just walked over with a six pack and asked if they minded me helping them tweak the angle. They had no idea it was even bugging me and were super cool about it once I showed them. Tbh, most people just don't realize how far their light carries at night.
