Just realized the difference between a 1 minute exposure and a 5 minute exposure on the same nebula last night.
Was out in my backyard near Tucson. Clear sky, no moon. Shot the Orion Nebula. Did a quick 1 minute test shot to check focus. Then let it run for 5 minutes. The difference was insane. That extra 4 minutes brought out all the wispy dust lanes around it. Brown, purple, dark streaks I hadn't seen before. Felt like I had a whole new picture. Any of you guys notice a big jump past a certain exposure time?

@palmer.henry Tbh I used to think short exposures were fine, but seeing that jump changed my whole mind.

Did you find that the jump from 3 to 5 minutes was as big as the jump from 1 to 3 minutes? I had the same thing happen with the Andromeda galaxy last fall, that extra time brought out details in the spiral arms I didn't even know were there. It really changes the whole game once you push past those short test shots.
