Just figured out I've processed over 500 raw astro photos this month alone

Was backing up my hard drive last night and saw the folder count - 512 images just from January. Most of them are garbage too, like 20 shots of the Orion nebula where I messed up the focus. How many photos do you guys usually trash before you get one keeper?

Trash about 90% of my subs honestly. The moon is the worst offender, I'll take 100 frames and keep maybe 3. Quality over quantity beats everything else.

Heard a pro astrophotographer give a talk once and he said the same thing. Said he routinely deletes like 95% of his lunar shots because the seeing conditions have to be perfect. Makes sense when you think about it, the atmosphere creates so much turbulence that only a few frames in a burst are actually crisp. I've been trying to be more ruthless with my own culling and honestly my keepers have gotten way better since. Its tough to hit that delete button on stuff you spent time on but man the results speak for themselves.
