I used to roll my eyes at star trail stacking, then I shot the Milky Way from a $40 lens
Saw a comparison post where someone stacked 200 frames from a cheap kit lens against my single 30 second shot of the core, and honestly the detail difference convinced me that stacking is worth the time, has anyone else switched after seeing side by side results like that?

That side by side comparison is exactly what got me too. I fought stacking for months because I hated the extra work on top of shooting, but then I saw a stack of 150 frames from a kit 18-55 next to my single tracked shot and it was honestly embarrassing. The noise reduction alone made the fainter dust lanes pop in a way I couldn't get with any amount of tweaking in post. Now I do at least a hundred frames for anything widefield, cheap lens or not, and I never want to go back to single frames unless I'm just grabbing a quick test shot.
