Heard someone say the Orion Nebula is 'easy mode' for astrophotography and it made me rethink my whole setup

I was at a local astronomy club meetup last week and this guy goes 'yeah, the Orion Nebula is basically the training wheels of deep space imaging.' At first I felt kind of lame because that's what I've been shooting for 3 months straight with my stock DSLR and a 200mm lens. But then I thought about it more and realized I've actually gotten 12 usable frames that I stacked into something I'm proud of last Tuesday. It's not a perfect shot but I can clearly see the Trapezium stars now. Has anyone else had that moment where a beginner target actually taught you something unexpected?

Stepped in here thinking the same way honestly. I was all about skipping to galaxies and globular clusters because I wanted something harder. Then I spent a whole weekend failing to get anything useful out of M51 with my kit lens and cheap tripod. Went back to Orion out of frustration and realized I didn't actually understand how to dial in my focus or stacking settings. That simple target let me actually see what a good histogram looks like and why dithering matters. It made me a better photographer in two nights than a month of chasing dim stuff did. Have you tried pushing past the easy shot like seeing how much detail you can pull with just a crop sensor?

Feels like gatekeeping honestly, you can have fun with dim stuff if you want.
