Finally got the Ring Nebula after 3 nights of fighting my tracking mount in the backyard
I've been trying to shoot M57 from my driveway in Columbus for like 2 weeks and kept getting star trails no matter what I did. Someone on a forum said to stop using my phone app for polar alignment and just do a drift align with my 30 year old reticle eyepiece, 15 minutes of nudging and I could see Polaris sitting dead center. Last night I stacked 42 frames at 90 seconds each and the little donut actually showed up with color in it. It's not gonna win any awards but this is the first time a deep sky object came out looking like the thing I was aiming at. What's everyone's cutoff for sub length before you just call it a night on a cheap mount?
