Drove out to Cherry Springs State Park last weekend and the sky was so washed out I could barely find the Milky Way
I get that it's a dark sky park but three different people had their phone flashlights on full blast while I was trying to shoot a 20 second exposure. Also there were like 6 cars idling with headlights pointed right at the viewing field. Is this just how it is at popular spots now, or did I pick a bad night to go?
The phone flashlights on full blast part really gets me. I feel for you. It takes one person to wreck a 20 second shot and they have no idea what they're doing to everyone around them. I had a similar night at a dark sky spot last fall and ended up just sitting in the car waiting for the crowd to thin out. It is not just you, the popular parks have gotten rough, but a weeknight or a colder month makes a huge difference.
