Bought a cheap solar filter off eBay, nearly cooked my camera sensor
I saw a deal for a sun filter at $18 and figured why not. Stuck it on my 70mm refractor and pointed at the sun for about 10 minutes. Turns out the film was too thin and let way too much light through, the image was blinding bright. Lucky I checked the photos on my laptop before doing a full session, the sensor was already throwing weird hot pixels. Has anyone else risked a bargain filter and regretted it, or am I just the unlucky one?

Wishing you'd checked the film specs first, that's a pricey lesson in cheap gear...
