A park ranger's flashlight trick changed my night sky shots
Last summer I was struggling with star trails at Great Basin National Park, and a ranger walked by during a canyon tour. She pointed her red flashlight at my tripod and said 'your focus ring is drifting, lock it with tape before every long exposure.' Have any of you found a simple field hack that fixed a photo problem you'd been fighting for ages?

Did you try turning off image stabilization on the tripod too? That was the fix for me, it kept fighting the mount and smearing my shots.
