Wasted $150 on a cheap stud finder that lied to me

Bought one of those $15 magnetic stud finders at Home Depot last month. Hung a heavy shelf, put all my books on it, and it came crashing down at 2 AM. Turns out the magnet was picking up drywall screws, not actual studs. Had to patch three holes in the wall. Just get a real electronic one, even a $40 one is way better. Anyone else get tricked by those cheap magnets?

wait so you're telling me the magnetic one just grabbed onto any random screw in the drywall and not the actual stud behind it? lol that's wild but honestly i could see that happening since those magnets don't know the difference between a screw holding up drywall and a screw sunk into a stud. did you at least try to return it to Home Depot or did you just toss it in the junk drawer like the rest of us?
