Tried a cheap vacuum sealer to save on groceries. Ended up tossing $40 of meat.
I bought a $30 vacuum sealer off Amazon last month thinking I'd save on food waste. Sealed up a bunch of chicken breasts and pork chops from a bulk run at Costco. Checked the freezer after two weeks and half the bags had lost their seal. The meat was all frostbitten and had to go straight in the trash. Guess you really do get what you pay for with those cheap units. Anyone else have a brand that actually holds a seal longer than a week?

My roommate had the same problem with a cheap one. She got the FoodSaver and it's been a lot better, seals stay tight. That extra $40 stung less than tossing rotten meat again.

PREACH. I did the EXACT same thing, bought a $30 no-name sealer and ended up throwing out more food than before. That cheap one kept failing at the seal line and air would creep back in after a week. Finally broke down and got a FoodSaver and the difference is INSANE, everything stays vacuumed tight for months now. That extra money HURT in the moment but I've probably saved triple that in not wasting meat and produce.
