Took me 30 years to realize I've been loading the dishwasher wrong
My wife's mom came to visit last week and quietly rearranged the top rack before I started it. Turns out putting bowls facing up just fills them with dirty water and nothing gets clean. Has anyone else had a basic life habit completely wrecked by a relative?

Wait, you mean bowls shouldn't go face up? My mom always taught me bowls up, cups down. I had the same problem with those big mixing bowls - they'd just sit there full of gross water and food bits. What works for me is tilting everything at an angle on the top rack, so water runs off the sides. Also, make sure nothing is nesting together, like bowls stacked inside each other - that's a rookie mistake but I did it for years. Your mother-in-law probably saved you from a lot of wasted soap and sad, wet dishes.

Wait tilting them at an angle is actually the move? I've never tried that but it makes sense... how do you keep them from sliding around and crashing into everything though? I feel like every time I try to get creative with the rack layout stuff just falls over and then the spray arm gets blocked. My wife's mom just shook her head and walked away when she saw my setup last week... she didn't even say anything just fixed it and I pretended not to notice.
