That $160 bike cargo rack I bought saved me from buying a car

I live in Chattanooga and my beater sedan finally died back in March. Instead of dropping $4k on another used car, I got a rear cargo rack for my commuter bike, cost me $160 with the mounting kit. Last week I hauled 40 pounds of potting soil and a new toilet seat in one trip, no problem. The rack wobbles a bit on rough pavement but it's held up through 500 miles so far. Anyone else using bike racks to dodge car payments in a hilly town, or am I just lucky with my roads?
