Shoutout to the guy who told me my ethernet cable was running through a sprinkler zone
I was setting up a new router in my basement last weekend and ran a 50 foot cable through the crawlspace. Didn't think twice about it until I turned on the sprinklers in the backyard and heard gurgling under the floor. Turns out I ran the cable right through a drainage pipe that connects to the sprinkler system. Had to cut the cable and redo the whole run with a waterproof conduit. Has anyone else accidentally routed cables through something dumb?

Oh man, that's a classic case of "famous last words" right there. My buddy did something similar when he ran speaker wire through a vent and it got sucked into the furnace blower - sounded like a dying robot for a week. At least you caught it before the sprinkler soaked your whole basement setup.

Gotta push back here - I'd actually argue running cable through a drainage pipe is kinda genius if you think about it. That pipe's already protecting the cable from weather and stuff, and worst case scenario you get a little moisture. Sounds way better than drilling through studs or dealing with conduit.
