Rant: The way folks pronounce 'pecan' like it's a federal case
I grew up in Georgia and said 'puh-KAHN' my whole life, moved to Ohio and somebody actually corrected me at a potluck like I was saying it wrong. It's a nut, not a debate topic, but man do people get weird about it. Anyone else run into this regional food word stuff?

Honestly, I had almost the exact same thing happen in Tennessee versus Colorado. I said "puh-KAHN" my whole life growing up, and out in Denver someone at a work lunch was like "you mean PEE-can?" with this look. It's just a nut, why does it turn into a whole thing? I feel your pain on the potluck correction, that's wild. Some people act like there's a right and wrong way to say a word that has three acceptable pronunciations.

Is it really that serious though? Like I had a buddy from Georgia move up to Michigan and he got roasted at a barbecue for saying "puh-kahn" while passing the coleslaw. @jackson.sarah you hit the nail on the head with the potluck thing, people act like you said their grandma's name wrong or something. Dude told me this lady at the party literally stopped mid-sentence to correct him in front of everyone, then launched into a whole lecture about how "proper" pronunciation varies by region. He just stood there with a plate of ribs like, "Okay cool, can I have some cornbread or what?" It's a nut, man. Not a debate topic.
