I finally visited that diner in St. Louis everyone raves about

Went to Ma and Pa's Diner in St. Louis last Saturday expecting legendary pancakes, but the eggs were cold and the waitress forgot my order. Half the people there were posting photos for social media while the other half just wanted a quiet breakfast. Is it worth going to hyped-up spots like this or should we stick to the no-name places where the food is actually good?

Hype just makes you expect more so even decent stuff feels like a letdown.

Wait really? They let cold eggs come out of the kitchen? That's wild to me, hyped places usually at least nail the basics. Cold eggs are practically a crime in my book, I'd be so mad if I drove all the way there for that. I get the social media thing too, people care more about the photo than the actual food sometimes. But honestly, hype can be such a gamble, you never know if you're gonna get a solid meal or a total letdown. Give me a no-name place with a grumpy cook who takes pride in his hashbrowns any day, at least you know what you're getting.
