I finally stopped hiding my questions after a guy at a meetup said something blunt
Last year I went to a local tech meetup in Columbus and sat through a whole talk about API design without saying a word. Afterward this older dev walked up and told me straight up that my silence was making me look like I already knew everything (which I definitely didn't). He said asking dumb questions actually helps other people learn too because half the room is probably wondering the same thing. That hit me hard because I'd been staying quiet for months in online forums and real life out of fear of looking stupid. Now I make it a point to post at least one question in every community thread I join even if it feels basic. Has anyone else gotten called out like that and had it flip a switch in how they participate?

Wait I used to be the guy who thought asking questions was wasting everyone's time? That's a good wakeup call honestly.

Did you ever ask yourself why you felt that way in the first place?
