Hot water heater died on a Tuesday night and I had no backup plan
Last month my water heater gave out right after I got home from work, around 8 PM. It started making this loud banging noise for about 30 seconds then went silent. I checked the pilot light and it was out, but relighting it did nothing and I ended up with cold water for three days. The plumber quoted me $1,200 to replace it and I had to drain the whole thing myself to save some cash. Has anyone else had a major appliance fail at the worst possible time and how did you handle the wait?

Honestly, did you try hitting it with a wrench first? That fixed my dryer once.

Hitting it with a wrench first is solid advice honestly. That's how I fixed my washing machine once.
