Unpopular opinion: That 3000 year old pot they found in Egypt last month might be a fake

I heard about the dig near Luxor that supposedly turned up a perfectly preserved storage jar from 1000 BC, but the wear patterns look weird to me. Has anyone else seen the photos and thought the tool marks look too fresh for something that old, or am I just being paranoid about modern fakes slipping into the record?

Oh man, you just reminded me of the time I bought a "vintage" Star Wars action figure on eBay that turned out to be from last Tuesday. But honestly, those tool marks on the pot do look suspiciously crisp, like someone just ran a Dremel over it instead of using a chisel three thousand years ago. Then again, my expertise in ancient pottery comes mostly from watching Indiana Jones movies, so maybe I should just sit this one out.

Notice how everything has that "just came off the assembly line" look these days, even stuff that's supposed to be old. It's like the whole world got obsessed with making things look perfect and forgot that ancient artifacts are supposed to have some wear and tear. But hey, at least if it's a fake pot it probably won't crumble in your hands, which is more than I can say for some legit antiques I've seen.
