TIL a Roman dodecahedron was found in a field near my hometown last spring
I grew up outside of Lincoln and never thought anything cool would come from the local farm fields. Then last April a metal detector guy pulled out this weird 12-sided bronze object with holes in it. The local museum dated it to around 200 AD. Nobody knows what the Romans used them for, some say calendar, some say knitting tool. I went to see it last month and it was smaller than I thought, about the size of a golf ball. Has anyone else gotten to see one of these up close? What do you think they were actually for?

Knitting tool makes zero sense for something that small and solid.
