That Roman coin I nearly passed up changed my mind about field walking

I had this old farmer outside York tell me I was wasting my time looking in plowed fields last spring. He showed me a single denarius he'd found just lying on the surface, right where I'd walked three times already that morning. Now I slow down and check every bare patch, especially after rain washes the dirt off.

Used to think it was just luck, not skill, finding stuff like that. Had to eat my words after I found a silver button in a field I'd given up on.
