Saw the Cahokia Mounds last weekend and the size caught me off guard

I drove up to Collinsville, Illinois to check out Monks Mound and it's way bigger in person than any picture shows. That thing covers 14 acres at the base. Has anyone else been to a site that looked small in photos but blew you away in real life?

yeah totally agree with you on that, the pictures dont do it any justice at all. i went to see the serpent mound in ohio a few years back and thought it was just gonna be a small dirt mound from the photos, but when you get there its like a massive snake winding across the field for like a quarter mile. same thing with the great wall actually, i saw one of those tourist shots and thought it was just a little stone fence but standing next to it on a section outside beijing made me feel tiny. its weird how our brains just cant process scale from a screen. the cahokia site is insane though, especially when you think about how they built it all without modern tools or machines. makes you wonder what other ancient sites we underestimate from just photos.
