My old professor said most digs never make the news, and that stuck with me
I ran into my old archaeology professor at a bookstore in Ann Arbor last week and we got to talking about how people only hear about the big finds like tombs and shipwrecks. He said something like 90% of field work is sorting pottery shards and cataloging dirt layers, and honestly that made me respect the whole thing more. Does anyone else here get way more excited about the small stuff than the headline discoveries?
