I finally went back to the dig site in Cyprus after 3 summers and half the Roman mosaic I helped uncover is gone
Went back to Paphos last week and found out the trench we dug in 2019 got backfilled with dirt and left uncovered for two winters, so frost and weeds ate most of the tesserae, and the site lead just shrugged and said funding ran out, has anyone else watched a dig they worked on fall apart like this?

Paphos backfilled our 2017 trench too, and the winter rain turned those tesserae into loose gravel within months.
