Hot take: dig sites don't need to be treated like operating rooms

I watched a grad student lose three hours of daylight at a site outside Flagstaff because he insisted on using dental picks to scrape around a broken pot sherd instead of just pulling it out carefully. We could have bagged it in ten minutes and moved on - sometimes the obsession with "clean" excavation just kills your real work.

My dad always said the same thing about his woodworking. He had every fancy tool in the shop but sometimes just grabbed a hand plane and got it done. @caseyw12, that advice works for so many things besides work. Overthinking can really slow you down.
