Found a 30 second GIS trick that saved me from digging up the wrong section of a Roman villa site
Spent 3 weeks last summer walking a field near Cirencester with a magnetometer and my survey grids kept lining up with what turned out to be a 19th century drainage ditch instead of the villa walls, then a retired surveyor showed me how to overlay the geophysics data on the 1880s Ordnance Survey map in QGIS, and it took half an hour to spot the actual building footprint, so what free layer or overlay tip do you all use to sanity check a survey before you start a trench?
