Bumped into a retired archaeologist at a diner in Santa Fe and he said most dig sites are just trash pits from the 1800s

He told me we spend all our time finding old cans and broken plates from pioneer camps, and it made me wonder if we're just glorified garbage pickers with fancy degrees - has anyone else had that thought?

Tell that archaeologist that every garbage pit tells a story about how people really lived. Half the stuff in my shop comes from old houses where I find more junk in the walls than treasure, but that junk tells you more about the owner than any fancy furniture.

@leo_campbell what's the weirdest junk item you ever found in a wall that told you the most about someone?
