Why does nobody mention that pruning cuts can trigger a tree to throw up epicormic shoots?
Had a client's maple in Rockford that I cleaned up 8 months back, and now the whole trunk is pushing these ugly water sprouts right at the cut sites. Turns out heavy removal on maples wakes up dormant buds hard, so I should have left more interior growth instead of stripping it. Anyone else deal with this on soft maples, and do you thin the sprouts or just let them be?
