The big mulberry stump I thought I'd dig out in an afternoon

I had a 24 inch mulberry stump in a client's backyard near Oak Park. Figured I'd have it out in 3 or 4 hours with the mini excavator. Took me two full days and a rented stump grinder to finally get the last of the taproot. Anyone else find mulberry roots go down way deeper than you expect?

Read a thing from some old arborist saying mulberry roots can go as deep as the tree is tall, and I believe it now. One guy on a gardening forum said he found a mulberry taproot going down almost 12 feet before he gave up and just left it. I pulled a smaller one from my own yard last year and the roots had wrapped around the sewer line like they were trying to strangle it. It's ALWAYS the mulberries that fight you the hardest, I swear. Smaller roots snap off easy but that big center one just keeps going and going.

Nah, sounds like you just need a bigger machine.
