That time I found a hornet's nest inside a hollow maple at the local park

I was over at Elmwood Park last Tuesday doing some routine limb cleanup after that storm rolled through, and I spotted this big old maple near the playground that looked kinda off. Got closer and realized the whole trunk had this huge cavity going up about 15 feet, and there was a hornet's nest the size of a basketball tucked inside it. I had to call the city to get a pest guy out before I could even touch it, and the whole time kids were running around 20 feet away playing soccer. Has anyone else dealt with wildlife surprises in urban trees like that?
