Swore 4 stroke saws were the only way, then a dead 029 in Fort Worth changed my tune
My old Stihl 029 died on a big oak removal in Fort Worth last month, so I borrowed a buddy's battery saw just to finish the cuts and figured it would be gutless. It chewed through the 14 inch stuff faster than I expected and didn't need a single pull to restart, which honestly bugged me more than I want to admit. Anyone else switch to battery for smaller jobs, or am I about to regret dropping real money on one?

Battery saws are great for limbing and small stuff but that 029 died because it was old and tired, not because gas saws are done. A good running 261 or 400 will still walk all over any battery saw in big hardwood, and you can run it all day on a couple cans of mix instead of hauling a truckload of packs. For a guy doing real tree work in Texas heat, battery still taps out way too fast once you get into 20 inch plus wood. Fine as a backup to finish a job, but I would not sink real money into one as your main saw.
