Shoutout to the old guy who showed me the 2x4 trick for a heavy leaner
Had this big pin oak leaning hard over a garage in Akron last week... client wanted it down but the drop zone was maybe 8 feet wide. I was stressing about rigging for an hour. This retired arborist watching from next door just walks over, grabs a scrap 2x4 about 3 feet long, and says 'wedge your bar with this'. We notched it, hammered the 2x4 into the back cut, and it acted like a perfect hinge lock. Tree sat right down where we wanted. Been doing this 7 years and never saw that. Anyone have other simple tricks for tight spots like that?

That 2x4 trick is a known hinge saver, but it can fail on really heavy leaners. I've seen them split or kick out when the wood grain isn't perfect. For a pin oak over a garage, I would have stuck with a pull line and wedge combo for more control.
