My nephew "helped" me repot a fern last weekend and I'm still finding soil in weird places. I found a clump in the bathroom cup holder, his socks were basically mud puppets, and there was a perfect little handprint on the fridge door. He looked so proud standing there covered in dirt, like a tiny, happy swamp thing.

That's awesome getting the kids involved with something like that. We put in a couple of maples last fall and it was the same story, just absolute chaos with mud everywhere. My youngest was more dirt than child by the end of it. Those are the best kind of memories though, the messy ones that stick. Really cool thinking about that oak being there for them to see grow up.
