PSA: Stop watering your trees at night, neighbors.

I noticed my neighbor's maple tree getting yellow leaves with black spots last summer, and I told him it looked like fungus. He said he watered every night at 10 PM because it's cooler. I explained that wet leaves overnight for 12 hours straight is like a spa day for fungal spores. Since he switched to morning watering, the tree looks way healthier. Has anyone else had luck convincing people to change their watering schedule?

Starting with watering schedules, it's kind of wild how many small habits people pick up without ever questioning why. Like, everyone just assumes cooler night air equals better for plants, but they dont think about the 12 hours of wet leaves. It's the same pattern I see with people washing their cars at dusk too - they think it saves water but end up with water spots cause the sun dries it too fast, or worse, they leave soap residue that eats at the paint. We all just do stuff cause "that's how we've always done it" without looking at the bigger picture of cause and effect. Glad you got your neighbor to see the light on that one, trees are too expensive to lose to a bad routine.
