I finally stopped using that cheap climbing rope after a close call

Bought a no-name rope online for about $80 less than a trusted brand, thinking it was just for light work. It started showing weird fraying after only six months on a simple pine removal job. Almost took a bad fall when a section gave way during a routine limb walk. What brands do you guys actually trust for daily climbing gear?

Man, that "close call" part really got me. I mean, that's the stuff of nightmares, having a rope go like that on a limb walk. I've seen some weird fraying on off-brand stuff too, and it just makes your stomach drop. I've been sticking with Samson for years now and it's never given me a bad feeling.

Weird fraying" is exactly what you don't want to see. That's the kind of thing you spot right before a real bad day. Sticking with a trusted brand just makes sense.
