Finally hit 500 mature tree removals without a single major incident today

After 8 years of climbing and rigging, I managed to drop a 60-foot oak between two sheds in a 6-foot gap and it landed exactly where I aimed, has anyone else had a close call that made you realize how much you've actually learned?

Read that piece on tree biomechanics really changed how I see hinge placement.

Used to think that kind of precision was mostly luck or showing off... but reading this makes me see how much deliberate skill goes into reading the tree and the drop zone. That 6-foot gap between sheds is really just a solid reminder that experience teaches you things no book or video ever could. Definitely makes me think twice about calling a clean removal "easy" when the real work is all the small decisions you don't see.
