Back from a weekend job on some historic park trees

Took a short trip to a town a few hours away to prune a set of old maples in their main park. The trees had some rough splits from past storms, but we managed to clean them up safely. It was my first time working in that kind of public space, and the park staff were really thankful. Just a small thing, but driving home felt pretty solid.

Check old maple storm splits carefully before pruning to prevent more damage.

My buddy rushed to cut a split branch after a storm. He didn't see the old crack running further down the trunk. His clean cut actually opened up that old weak spot worse. Took the tree two years to seal that new mess. Now he inspects the whole limb, even the shady side, before making a single cut.

Waiting for a dry spell really helped me with my split maple, @simon_west18. Let the wound dry out fully before you even touch it with a saw.
