That old VCR I picked up from a garage sale actually worked, just needed a new belt

Found a Panasonic PV-1360 at a garage sale near my folks' place in Dayton for 5 bucks. Got it home, plugged it in, and it just made this grinding noise before spitting the tape back out. Figured out the rubber belt had turned into goo after all these years, swapped in a new one for like 8 bucks from a parts site, and now it plays my old home movies from 1995 like it's brand new. Has anyone else had luck fixing those old combo units with the TV built in?

Funny how a five dollar garage sale find turns into a whole weekend project.

That old combo TV/VCR thing used to bug me back in the day. I figured they were just junk once something broke, especially with the TV part built in it seemed like too much hassle. But after messing with a few old electronics myself, I changed my tune. I've got a Panasonic PV-M1369 sitting in my basement, and a new belt fixed the tape drive just like yours. The TV part still works fine on mine, just needed to tune the channel a little. Most people toss these things without thinking a belt swap is even possible.
