Showerthought: my $8 logic probe from a flea market saved a dead Atari 2600 last month
I grabbed it thinking it would just sit in a drawer, but when my 2600 stopped showing anything on screen I pulled it out and started poking around the 6507 chip. Turns out the reset line was stuck low, and the probe showed me that in about two minutes instead of me swapping chips blind for a weekend. Back when I started messing with this stuff I would have just bought a whole replacement console for $40 and called it done. Now I am wondering what other cheap tools I have been ignoring. What small tool ended up being the one you reach for the most?
