Recapped my old Mac SE and it booted worse than before, starting to think the internet is wrong about this
Spent $14 on new capacitors from a place in Ohio and spent a Saturday swapping all 11 of them on the analog board of my Mac SE, and instead of the floppy drive springing back to life it now chimes and then shows a sad Mac with a checkerboard pattern it never had before. Everyone on the old forums acts like recapping is step one for every dead compact Mac, but I'm wondering if I cooked a trace with my $30 iron or just had the wrong caps. Did recapping ever make your machine act worse, or am I just bad at reading polarity?
