My 10 year old nephew asked why my 'new' computer has a cup holder

I was showing him my freshly restored Windows 98 machine and he pointed at the CD-ROM tray. It took me a second to realize he'd never actually seen one used for its intended purpose. Anyone else have a moment that made you feel ancient?

Okay but is it really that deep? Kids not knowing old tech just means the world moved on. My parents had to explain rotary phones and I didn't feel ancient for them. Stuff gets replaced, that's how it works. Getting hung up on a CD tray feels like looking for a reason to feel old.

Remember when we had to explain to kids that the save icon was a real object. That one always gets me. They look at the floppy disk symbol like it's some made up art. Makes you realize how much physical stuff just vanished from daily life. We used to handle those things every single day. Now the idea of carrying your homework on a separate square piece of plastic is completely foreign to them.

Right, and they'd hold like ONE picture.
