Had to choose between recapping a Commodore 64 or replacing the PSU entirely
I went with the PSU replacement because the old brick was putting out 12.2V instead of 9V and it fried a CIA chip anyway, anyone else deal with these failing regulators yet?

Doubt it's that big of a deal honestly. Those old PSUs are tanks and a little ripple usually isn't enough to nuke anything unless you really got unlucky.

Those old Commodore 64 PSUs are infamous for drifting voltages over time, especially the 5V rail. In my experience, that slow death kills more chips than a sudden spike does.
