Chose a CRT monitor over a LCD for retro gaming, no regrets 3 years later

I know most people say to just get a cheap LCD for old consoles, but I went with a 19 inch Sony Trinitron CRT instead. Picked it up from a local recycler in Phoenix for $15 back in 2021. The light gun games actually work, the scan lines look right for SNES and Saturn stuff. Took me a while to haul it up my stairs but the picture is just way better for pixel art. Anyone else stick with a CRT for their retro setup even when LCDs are easier to find?

Man that Sony Trinitron is a beast. I got one too a few years back from a thrift store and it weighs like 90 pounds. My back still hurts thinking about carrying it up the basement stairs. But yeah the picture on those for old consoles is incredible. Light gun games are a huge deal for me too, I play House of the Dead and Time Crisis on my Saturn all the time. LCDs just don't do it right, the lag kills the fun. Also I swear CRT colors just pop more for games like Sonic or Street Fighter. Totally worth the hassle for that authentic look.

Man that's the exact same reason I stuck with mine too. I got a 20 inch JVC D-series from a guy on Craigslist for like $20 and it's a pain to move but light gun games just work on it. House of the Dead 2 on Dreamcast is unplayable on a flat panel, but on the CRT it feels like the arcade. Also the way pixel art looks on a Trinitron is just unbeatable, those scan lines make everything look intentional and sharp. You made the right call.
