A customer's complaint about my monitor made me ditch the CRT settings

I ran an old Pentium 133 with a CTX 17 inch CRT for years, and I always had the refresh rate locked at 60 Hz because that's what the manual said. A guy picking up a free tower in Des Moines glanced at my screen and said the flicker was giving him a headache, then told me to try 75 Hz if the card supports it. I changed it in the driver settings for my S3 Trio64V+ and the difference was night and day, I wish I'd done that back in 1998. Anyone else still running a CRT and ignoring the higher refresh rates?

Did you try bumping the resolution down at the same time? My old Trinitron caps at 85 Hz at 800x600 but drops to 75 at 1024x768. The sweet spot for me is 75 Hz at 800x600, it looks smooth and the text is still sharp enough for DOS games. Most people just assume the manual is gospel and never touch the advanced settings.
