Wasted $40 on a cheap bulk loader and fogged 100 feet of HP5

I bought a no name bulk film loader off a guy at the Portland camera show for $40 last month. The light trap felt loose but I figured it was fine, loaded up 100 feet of Ilford HP5, and shot a whole roll at the coast. Every single frame came out fogged and streaky, so I lost the film plus a $25 dev kit and a weekend. Stick with a Watson or Lloyd loader even if it costs more, has anyone else gotten burned by a knockoff bulk loader?
