That old repair guy showed me how to fix a sticky shutter with a pencil

I met this retired camera tech at a flea market in Portland last fall, just digging through a box of broken lenses. He saw me holding a beat up Canonet and just goes, 'the shutter's probably sticky, don't oil it.' I thought he was crazy but he pulled out a soft graphite pencil and rubbed it on the shutter blades. Said the graphite acts as a dry lubricant and doesn't gum up like oil does. It took me an hour at home to test it and honestly, that little trick saved me from spending $80 at a repair shop. The blades move smooth now, no residue on the glass either. Has anyone else used graphite on leaf shutters or is that just a boomer secret?
