Stop using rubbing alcohol to clean your camera lens coatings unless you want to strip them off like I did last month

I ruined a $40 vintage Takumar lens by wiping a spot with 91% isopropyl and watched the coating bubble up and peel off in less than 10 seconds, so has anyone else had this happen or am I just the unluckiest person in this forum?

Oh man, that is brutal. I can't believe a 10 second wipe did that much damage... I've used 91% on modern lenses without a single problem, but hearing this makes me think I've been lucky. Those old Takumar coatings must be way more fragile than I ever realized.

91% is way too strong for old coatings, try 70% next time or just stick to lens wipes.
