Spent $60 on a lens cleaning kit and it saved my Minolta from the trash

I picked up a cheap YONGNUO cleaning kit from B&H last month cause my 50mm f/1.4 had this haze that wouldn't come off with just a cloth. Tried the included fluid and swabs on the front element and it cleared up like 90% of the gunk. Anyone else had luck with those kits or do you just send them out for a proper service?

You said it "cleared up like 90% of the gunk," which is exactly the problem. That last 10% is where the real damage lives, and now you've just smeared whatever was left (plus some nasty residue from the fluid) deeper into the coating. That haze probably wasn't even haze, it was a light fungus or mineral deposit that a proper optical clean would have removed fully for maybe $40. You basically took a gamble and won partial success, but in six months that remaining gunk could etch the glass permanently. I'd rather just send stuff to a real shop and not risk turning a $200 lens into a paperweight cause I saved twenty bucks on a cleaning kit.
